Rolled a Second Yahtzee? Bonus and Joker Rules, Explained

If you roll five of a kind and already scored 50 in that box, you earn a 100-point bonus. You must then score the roll by the joker rules: fill the matching upper-section box first; if it's taken, fill any open lower-section box at its normal value; if those are full, take a zero in an upper box.

The 100-point bonus

The first five of a kind you score in its box is worth 50 points. Every additional five of a kind you roll after that earns a 100-point bonus, as long as the box holds a 50. Roll three in one game and that's 50 + 100 + 100 = 250 points before you've counted the boxes those rolls filled.

One catch: if you ever scored a zero in the five-of-a-kind box, later five-of-a-kinds earn no bonus. You still place them using the joker rules below.

The joker rules, step by step

A bonus five of a kind still has to fill a box. The rules force the order:

  1. Matching upper box first. Rolled five Fours? If the Fours box is open, you must score there (20 points).
  2. Otherwise, any open lower box at full value. The roll acts as a joker: 25 for Full House, 30 for Small Straight, 40 for Large Straight, or the dice total for 3 of a Kind, 4 of a Kind, and Chance, even though you didn't actually roll those shapes.
  3. If every lower box is full, zero an upper box. The bonus (if earned) still counts.

The joker large straight is the famous case: five Fours can be worth 100 (bonus) + 40 (Large Straight): a 140-point turn.

How Feltzee handles it

This is the rule people argue about at real tables, and the one most apps quietly get wrong. Feltzee implements the full official sequence: the 100-point bonus is added to its own 5-kind Bonus line on the scorecard, and when a joker placement applies, only the legal boxes light up: the matching upper box if it's open, otherwise the lower boxes at their fixed values. You see exactly what each legal box would score before you choose. And when you land one, there's a confetti celebration you can toggle in Settings.

Quick answers

Do you get 100 points for every extra five of a kind?

Yes, with no limit, as long as your five-of-a-kind box contains a 50. If it contains a zero, no bonus, but joker placement still applies.

Can a joker roll score a large straight?

Yes. If your matching upper box is filled and Large Straight is open, the joker roll scores the full 40 points there.
